It
is interesting that a single player can sometimes out score a team, due
to the fact there are more targets for the singleton. In this case the
Lags would have been better off splitting into 2 teams. This screen shot
also allows me to taunt several Lagitus divisions at once :) JavaMan does
well considering he only has 4 targets.
There
are some big rank players floating around on the 66 master. Rampire took
some revenge in later games.
I am
back from holidays with an extra 6 pounds to work off playing quake (should
take about 3 nights). I see Jester has been
busy improving his QuakeWorld ranking at the expense of a few LPB's and
is now in the top 500 by skill:
163 - Zaphoid
401 - Kodak
427 - Jester
1249 - Major
Lets hope the Best master comes back up soon so that Major
can climb up the rankings :)
We can resume our normal practice schedule now that the holidays are
winding down as we have a match with the Rangers coming up quickly, and
a CTF tourney as well.
Wednesdays 10:00pm-12:00 Central.
Saturdays 7:00pm-9:00pm Central - matches are usually scheduled to
follow.
We
are making progress with the QW learning curve, and should start posting
our adjusted and tuned cfg files soon. I have been using the -zone
1024 command line parameter to help delay the zmalloc error condition,
so try it out and let me know if it helps you.
During the Christmas holidays, I will not have modem access most
of the time, so I will not be accepting challenges until the new year.
Its
raw, but its better than pork riblets, and everyone in the Gang is rapidly
gaining experience in QuakeWorld. Last night's
practice was spent learning this new killing ground. If you read all the
FAQ's and documentation the install was fairly simple, but since we don't
read much it was at times frustrating due to the many pitfalls. Note any
tips you have for the rest of us. I am using pushlatency of around
-50 and have set this in my modified autoexec.cfg file. Palin was doing
well, and would look good in green and yellow!
With the Clan Ring Mod port nearly done, we will prolly be playing our
next Tournament on QW. The next Clan Ring tourney is rumored to begin in
Febuary, so we have a month to prepare.
With Christmas approaching, I won't be booking formal matches until after the holidays but if you are on IRC you may be called into a quick battle. In clan wars we have risen out of the muck and are now Slugs and must beat another red Slug level team to move up. I would like you all to think about improving our teamplay and to get you motivated I have some required reading for the Gang that the Undead Smurfs produced on DM3 the clan ring default level. This should get you thinking at a higher level about match play strategy. Since DM6 is becoming more popular I would like your ideas on how we can win this level.
Major
tried out the miracle cure from the Lag City page then promptly
kicked everyones butt with his smoother gameplay. I tried the modification
but had little change to report. When Major moves
to Edmonton next year - watch out!

A few
other laggites dropped into Fields to help me out. CombatBoy and I had
fun on E1M6 and outlasted a few LPB's then taught some newbies to get armor
before attacking. Meth helped quell the unknown
OD clan in an earlier battle.

Due
to difficulties finding an adequate server we played our Clan Wars match
against Ammo on their CTF server 3 on 3. Ammo was without their top
flag players, but came within inches of a caputure on 4 occasions! Thanks
to Ammo for their hospitality. Major bowed
out due to lag and wounds caused by a cast iron frypan.
After the game we had a few CTF scrimmages with Ammo then Zaphoid
and I went to Fields to let off some steam - see if you can
guess our names!

We
had our first 2 on 2 CTF scrimmage with some impressive players from Ammo.
Pings were even except for Major who was approx.
100 higher than the rest of us and with only 4 players the game was smooth.
Major and I have our work cut out for
us before the King of the Hill Tournament in January. During the CTF games,
Jester was busy leading the pack on 5 successive
levels at Fields of Blood.
Thursday
night, KodaK and I were on some server anonymously. I think he was "Dunsil"
and I was "Arthur_Dent". Anyway, there's about 6 other players
there 2 of which has pings under 100. We're kicking their butts. ;) Dak
and I are killing each other in cool ways, and sending smileys - :) - back
and forth. One of the losing lpb's says "You guys are too fucking
happy". To that I responded with " :o ". It was funny.

Late
night playing saw some fictional characters quietly sneaking about Fields
in a manner that was very close, but not quite, in a way that bulldozers
don't. Major's disguise was spotted immediately
(I think the colors and the LagGG tipped them off) After a few rounds such
as E1M7 where Zaphoid just about had more
frags then everyone else combined, we revealed our colors (at the end of
a level - screen 2) to a relieved Bait, who was glad that Mattress was
not another player who could beat him :) X joined us with only an aXe by
his side and did a fair bit of damage to his astonished victims.

Scrimmage
game 1 was Lagitus vs Ammo with Ammo taking the honors 90-74. The game
was played on DM6 with some nice lag experienced by all players (worse
than the ping times would indicate) specifically Major, who would spawn
then just see the floor. Thanks to Strato from the RL division for
helping out (and doing better than most of GG!) These guys are hard to
kill.

For
Game 2 Ammo lent us a few players, and we changed servers for a smoother
game on DM3. Blues won 78 to 61 in another close and entertaining battle.
GrimJack got the pentagram near the end to ensure the victory ( I will
work on my timing in practices more).
With
only 2 Lags left, we were finally on the winning side for game 3. Red won
80-42 on E2M2 The Ogre Citadel. This was one of the first times on this
level for Jest highlighting how important level management skills can be.
All in all it was some good practice on Deathmatch 2, and again AMMO proves
to be excellent hosts. All Lags displayed professionalism which was also
noted by Ammo. Here is an unedited snip of #ammo after the second game:
> You guys are fun to play with - very hard to kill
<Garg[AMMO]> I was going to comment on it during the game, but it
would have taken too long to type. 8-)
<GrimJack> I probably said I MIGHT be able to make it:)
<Bodybag> Damn, *that's* good!
<Garg[AMMO]> Dak, you guys are the coolest clan we've encountered
yet.
<Picard> heh, if we could only figure out a quicker way to start
playin.....
<Stormalong> definately.
<Bodybag> Certainly the most polite...
<GrimJack> Yes.
<Garg[AMMO]> You can give and take manbeatings in stride. 8-)
<GrimJack> You guys just Rock :) What can we say :)
<Bodybag> Gargoyle, you and your manbeatings...
> More praise is welcome :)
<GrimJack> Heh <
Bodybag> IN PRAISE OF AMMO! :-) <
Garg[AMMO]> You can quote me on your page on that one, Dak... hehehe...
8-)

Major
and myself started practicing for the upcoming King of the Hill 2 on 2
tournament tonight. Thanks to ZardoZ, DeFrag, and RobDog (observer) for
helping out. Major played defense, and I was on offence with the best ping.
We played several levels, and had some tough battles. The server was 164.58.68.3
port 26001, and for once we didn't have any unwanted visitors. I guess
the alternate port throws people off, so lets use this server again!
In the other screen shot, Zaph has fun on Fields at the expense of some LPB's including the Flemlord.
After
some trouble getting Ammo players, we finally got a 2 on 2 game going.
It was a very close game played on Ammo's server. Everclear, and Jester
were ready for a fight, but left after it was clear that there was a player
shortage on the Ammo team. Thanks to Major for observing and Bodybag for
being a good host. Ammo is a fun clan to play against, and after the match
I tested out one of their custom levels (thirteen) on quake3.mgl.ca
We will be having more scrimmages with these guys in the future.
I said
teamwork dammit! Well the Major won't be bending
over for a while. I think I now know where the clan hamster is. Thanks
to Zaphoid for the photo!
Most of the Gang and a few other unfortunate Lags were mugged by X (ex Lag) and HairyDong (from Clan Dong) on fields last night, though we did manage to have a lot of fun. It was good to play with X again, and the two of them demostrated the value of teamwork on a Teamplay 1 server. I had a read of Clan Dong's web site and have added it to our links page as it has some good dong humor. Lets do better Saturday against Ammo.

Zaphoid
and Major had some fun at the expense of the poor victims playing on Fields
of Blood. In the second game we see a common self preservation tactic,
change your pant color yellow. Well they do this to match their actual
pant color after a lagitus beating - may their riblet dinners get freezer
burn! You can see by the player names what we are dealing with. Zaph had
to change his color in order to have sufficient targets. I noticed the
CL clan has a key set up for this because it happens so often to them as
well!
Bait, who did well in game 2, is responsible for the Rocket
Jumpers Guide to Quake.

The
first game with Strato, Crasshole, Jester and myself was on the planet
quake server and we all had very poor pings (350+) with In Praise of Ammo
(a Canadian clan) getting the short end of the ping stick. El_Cid forgot
his ghost code and had 11 frags. Score 92-62 for Lagitus. We went to Ammo's
server for the second game and had the ping disadvantage, but the game
was much smoother with most of us under 350. With Crass, Jester, Major
and myself playing Ammo won this game 84-28 and won the night 146-130.
They displayed good sportmanship (except for a few complaints from one
of their members, who I am sure will be talked to) and were fun to play
against. We had better pull up or socks for Saturday's official match.
Thanks to the Rocket Lags for helping us out.
We are registered as Gang Green Division of Clan Lagitus. This will allow other divisions to participate as well. I have to build a challenge page for other clans to use. Check out the Clan Wars web page if you haven't yet. This page will now become public, so we should consider if we want the CTF strategy, and our config files available to competing clans.
With an inticipated increase in the number of battles we fight, I have asked the RL division if they would lend us players if we ran into scheduling problems and they have agreed. We will return the favor and help them out when needed. This is one of the advantages of a large clan!
CL
stormed back tonight calling on the LPB's in their clan to join in on Fields
of Blood but were unable to win the day! Jester puts
in an excellent showing for the Gang even
though he showed up half way into the level! It was nearly impossible to
get a weapon or stay alive with the server full of competent players.
There are now 5 seasoned high ping bastards in the Gang. Everclear brings his excellent Quake skills to stengthen the team. Everclear is available most on the weekends, and we will see him the most then.
The
Fields of "Clanilingus" Blood was the scene of a reported mugging
last night. Habib, a LPB and victim, complained about the "lack of
respect" he received from the lagged thugs "They stomped into
my campground and killed me with an axe" griped Habib. Other LPB's
on the scene declined to comment.
After a Blue vs Green 16 player slugfest (see the lag pages) where the Gang sponsored team eeked out a narrow victory, we took on a few lags on a teamplay server at 130.240.16.102. We should use this server again, because it has some interesting mods, and we could have locked our team colors to keep visitors off our team! Score of the games: 61-20 and 120-27 for Gang Green. Note: I didn't count WeedKiller's frags.
While using the player search facilities, this imposter Mr.LagGG was discovered. A Gang Green undercover squad was dispatched to spank the maroon. Major, should play Death-Bot all the time as he is unbeatable, Cindy is Zaphoid (no wonder few ladies play quake -you should have heard the lude comments), and I was Dunsil (from Star Trek, means useless) At one point we were taking turns hunting him down in the level.
I encourage (although not much is needed) all Gang Green members to
become proficient in CTF as well as regular Deathmatch. Here is an [example]
where our division sets a good example. Even though the Blue team has more
members, 2 of them were not lags and it is teamwork that wins the day with
CTF. There are many lags available each night for CTF play, so get out
there and lets work on the communication and lead the way! Hint: everyone
in the game should communicate their position to their teammates.
A new Lagitus division is formed from the remnants of the High Ping Bastards; Major, Zaphoid and myself, along with newcomer Jester to round out the lineup. We still require one more member for match play so the search continues. The first cut of the new site is now online. It is just a frame right now, but content and graphics will be added soon. Let me know what else you want to see here.
To celebrate the formation of a new Lagitus division, the gang green headed out to one of our favorite stomping grounds Fields of Blood for some teamplay 1 practice. The LPB in first place didn't hang around much after we arrived, and didn't like to see us catching up to his score. Jester is running the gang green [script] which is now available in our file area.
Note that this is a hangout of the clan clanilingus [CL] who I have teamed up with to dispose of obnoxious HPB's in the past. Expect to see quite a few clans here on the weekends.
The Gang did manage to take control of the server and the HPB's had to leave!
